REINVENTION

Twenty-Eight Years.
Ten Thousand Careers.

The resume was almost never the problem. I coach executives through the part of their career nobody warned them about, and I write about the emotional intelligence that decides how it goes.

About Rhett

I got into this because of the way people
talk about work when nobody's listening.

I’ve been coaching people through career transition since 1998. Long enough to watch three recessions, one pandemic, and now AI rearrange what a career looks like. Ten thousand people have sat across from me and said some version of the same sentence. I don’t know what I’m worth anymore.

The job market didn’t teach me the most useful thing I know. The conversations did. How a fifty-four year old VP describes himself after a layoff. What a CFO does with her hands when she’s asked about the gap on her resume. The tell is always emotional before it’s ever tactical.

So that’s what I work on. Not the document. The person holding it.

I run Notus Human Capital out of Utah. I ride an ebike on dirt when I need to think. I’m writing a book called Day Two. The rest of this site is those three things.

Beyond the career

I am a better man, a better husband,
and a better father because of his
wisdom and guidance.

Three Laws, Never Failed Yet

What Actually Decides Who Gets Hired

Twenty-eight years of coaching produced exactly three rules I'd defend in any room, plus one thing almost nobody wants to hear. Here they are.
Lead With the Liability
Say the hard thing first. The gap, the layoff, the age. It stops being leverage against you the second you name it.
Value Before the Ask
Give something that cost you effort before you need anything. This is why some people get answered and most get archived.
Remove the Risk
Every hire is a bet on somebody's reputation. Be the safe choice, not the impressive one.
Delivery Beats Documents
Nobody has ever been hired off a resume. They were hired off ninety seconds of how you sounded when the question got hard.

Executive Career Coaching

For executives in transition, by choice or otherwise. Positioning, targeting, recruiter access, interview prep, and the offer conversation. We work until you land, not until a package runs out. This one runs through my firm, Notus Human Capital, where you get the full team instead of just me.

Winning the Room

Interview performance coaching, reviewed like game film. We record the session and watch it back together, which is uncomfortable and the fastest thing I know. Your pace, your face, your first ninety seconds, and the four questions that quietly decide it. Most of what loses an interview happens before the second question.

The Axiom Foundry

Four days built on Benjamin Franklin's Junto model. Twelve men who were selected, not sold to. You already know your axioms, you've read the books, and the gap between knowing and instinct is the only thing that ever mattered. Closing it takes engineered experience, not another framework.
Goal-Oriented business Coaching Solutions

Speaking and Workshops

Keynotes on emotional intelligence, career reinvention after fifty, and what AI is doing to the middle of the org chart. I bring stories with a knife in them, not a model with four quadrants. Half-day workshops include live coaching in front of the room, which is where people actually learn it.

Where They Landed

The Companies On the Other Side of the Offer

People I've coached now run teams at companies like these. I don't place candidates and I'm not a recruiter. I get people ready for the room, and the room does the rest.
